Newent Local History Society celebrated its 40th anniversary last year.
Meetings are held on the second Thursday in the month (except December) and are on a variety of topics covering local, national and international history. Last year’s subjects included Nurse Edith Cavell; the landscape legacy of the Normans; Battlefield county – castles, battles and riot; and a social history of poverty, pestilence and privies.
Our summer visits in 2025 were a guided walk around Monmouth and an outing to Caerleon in south Wales to visit the Roman Barracks and Amphitheatre.
NEXT MEETING:
Our Annual General Meeting to be held on Thursday 12th March at 7.30pm at Sheppard House, Sheppard Way, Newent GL18 1TL followed by a talk on the Newent Wills Project.
